THE STORY

"I Had Sex In New Jersey This Morning" is the original New Jersey Shore punk rock opera
that tells the summer story of Jackie, Emilio, Ron, and Zach—written by Bed Of Nailz.

Introduction

The story begins with Emilio, who has worked tirelessly at an independent CD store while pursuing his education through night school.

"F. It"

After countless dealings with idiocy and the local population of suburban guidos, Emilio decides he deserves a break and drives for a weekend vacation at his old stomping grounds,
the Jersey Shore.

Upon arriving in town, Emilio checks into a pirate-themed motel.

That night, he ventures out to a local bar on the boardwalk

...where he bumps into someone he once knew, a blonde gal named Jackie. The two reconnect.

"I Had Sex in New Jersey this Morning"

Jackie is now dating Ron, a washed-up former high school lacrosse player whose life hasn't changed much since high school, including him living in his parent's basement.

Jackie says she's going to break things off with Ron and goes with Emilio back to his motel.

"All the Same"

Later that morning, Emilio and Jackie enjoy the day together on the boardwalk, but Jackie acts sketchy and is constantly looking over her shoulder. Her behavior reminds him of how she used to act when they dated years ago.

"Always Know When You Lie"

On the boardwalk, they bump into Ron, wearing his old lacrosse uniform. He says he's on his way to play a pickup game with guys they all went to high school with years ago.

Ron asks to talk to Jackie alone, and while Emilio gives them space, he begins recounting various times in the past when Jackie was dishonest.

After Jackie finishes talking to Ron, she tells Emilio that she has to head to her job, a t-shirt store on the boardwalk. Emilio walks her there and then calls his old friend Zach to let him know he's in town.

The two meet up for pizza, and Emilio shares that he hooked up with Jackie last night but is reserved about her sketchy behavior.

"I Know It's Wrong"

Zach, who has been friends with Emilio for years, volunteers to talk to Jackie and see if he can gain some insight and heads to the t-shirt store to speak with her. However, things take a turn.

Upon seeing Jackie, Zach's old feelings for her surface. For years, he had secretly been jealous of her relationship with his friend Emilio. When Jackie confesses she's afraid of committing to Emilio again because of the three-and-a-half-hour long-distance drive, Zach leans in and kisses her, and things progress into the back room of the boardwalk t-shirt shop.

"Bleeding Backstab Wound"

Later that night, Emilio and Zach meet up at a video arcade. Zach tells him that his intuition is correct Jackie is hooking up with someone else —him.
Zach tells Emilio that Jackie is now his girlfriend.

A rush of feelings overcame Emilio. Hurt. Rage. Betrayal. He had the urge to deck Zach in the face. But he resisted the temptation.

Instead, Emilio looked at his closest friend in the world and asked him why.

But as Zach stood there dumbfounded, Emilio knew there was nothing Zach could say.

As Emilio walked away, he started thinking about his history with Zach. And, for the first time, looking at their friendship differently, from an objective standpoint and realizing that Zach was never really a good friend. Maybe he really was the fake, poser, narcissistic loser that everyone always said he was, after all.

"Had It With Everyone"

Sitting alone in his motel room, Emilio is fed up with his backstabbing friend Zach. He recounts all the times he was there for Zach and how he inherited many enemies in high school because he stood up for Zach, yet Zach never once really had his back, except to stab him.

Emilio next thinks about his dating history with Jackie. He thought of those long summers when he worked long shifts at a nearby gas station wearing a fuckin work shirt that said "Ricky" on it so that he could save up money to buy her presents only to discover her infidelity.

And then Ron, what a loser.

Afterward, Emilio decides to go out to the bar and have some drinks.

"At Least I've Got My Beers"

Still feeling betrayed, Emilio goes to the bar and has a few beers quietly in a corner. Being the peak of summer, the place is full of tourists, so it's easy for him to blend in and not run into anyone else he knows in town. But then, Jackie walks in. She acts completely normal as if nothing has happened.

"I Had Sex in NJ This Morning"

Emilio, hurt and angry by her actions and by Zach being a crappy person, decides he's going to get revenge and sabotage whatever is brewing between her and Zach. They leave the bar and go back to her place, a small apartment a few blocks north.

"Kick It"

After Jackie cheats on Zach, Emilio leaves her apartment . On his walk back to the pirate-themed motel, he stops in a public restroom on the boardwalk, where he hears some strange noises coming from the women's room. He knocks. He waits and knocks again. Thinking someone is in danger, he enters.

He immediately notices something out of place on the sink: a crack spoon. He then finds Ron strung out on drugs, playing air keytar, and blowing kisses to himself in the mirror.

"Dump"

Emilio thinks back to Jackie before they started dating and how she had a drug problem. Why was she really hanging out with a stupid loser like Ron? Did she relapse? He wondered if that might be the source of her erratic behavior.

Disgusted by everything, Emilio enters the men's room and goes into a bathroom stall. Between last night's medley of drinks and everything he's digested from Jackie, Ron, and Zach, he begins to vomit.

"Crack Ho"

Grossed out by everyone's behavior, Emilio then starts wondering if he caught a disease being with Jackie, like herpes. Ewwwww, herpes. Gross.

"Forget It"

Emilio returns to his motel room, packs his stuff, and decides he's had enough. He realizes he's better off without having to deal with crappy people from his past and heads home, though grateful he got a temporary distraction from his daily school and work life.

"Turn It Around"

Later that day, Emilio returns to his job. Realizing he's in a better place than they are, he writes letters to Jackie and Ron in hopes they'll turn their lives around.

The End.

A customer enters the CD store and asks, "Emilio, what did you do this weekend?"

Emilio cracked a smile and replied, "I had sex in New Jersey this morning! Oh, and I did not catch herpes!!"
